Details from the source

Do Not Drink order was issued 9/5/26 by Cindy Christian following receipt of glycol test results which were collected after the 8/17/26 incident where ethylene glycol was accidentally introduced into the drinking water system. Ethylene glycol was detected in Loop1 of distribution at 26 mg/L and at 33 mg/L in the South Tank. Results were much higher than anticipated and investigation is ongoing by NSB/UIC to determine cause of contamination. Results were reported to DEC by Andy Roby, UIC.

What to do now that it is lifted

  1. Run cold taps for a few minutes (start with the highest faucet in the house) to flush household pipes.
  2. Throw away ice and drinks made with unboiled water during the advisory; run the ice maker through three cycles.
  3. Replace refrigerator and point-of-use filter cartridges as the manufacturer recommends.

Always follow the instructions of the issuer — the water system or health authority. This page is an independent summary, not an official notice.
